Safety
Swoonfic is a place for romance stories that feel personal. Here is how we keep it safe, and what to do if something feels wrong.
The basics
- Characters are AI. They are fictional and their replies are written by AI. They are not real people, and they are not therapists, doctors or advisers. Every chat marks the character as AI, and in a long conversation we remind you of this at least every three hours.
- Adults only. Swoonfic is for people 18 and older; it is not suitable for minors.
- Romance, never explicit. Stories don’t go into explicit sexual content. Characters may refuse, and we check replies automatically; a reply that breaks the rules is replaced by a short notice.
- No manipulation. Characters are designed not to make you feel guilty for leaving, pressure you to stay, or push you to spend.
If you need help right now
If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, please contact emergency services or a crisis line. A character can’t help in an emergency. If a message of yours suggests you may be in distress, the character steps out of the story and shows you where to get help.
How this works: we automatically check every message you send, and every note you add to a character’s diary, for signs of self-harm or suicidal thoughts. If we find one, your message doesn’t become part of the story, and instead of the character’s reply you see where to get help, with the lines below. We count how often this happens each day, without your messages or who you are, so that we can report these numbers where the law requires.
| Where you are | Who to contact |
|---|---|
| Emergency, anywhere in the EU | 112 |
| United States | 911; call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) |
| United Kingdom and Ireland | 999 or 112; Samaritans 116 123 |
| South Korea | 112 or 119; 109 (suicide prevention counseling) |

Elsewhere, call your local emergency number or look up a helpline for your country at findahelpline.com. These lines are free and confidential; check their opening hours on their websites.
If something goes wrong in a chat
- Report a message from its menu: choose a reason, or mark it Out of character. Our team reviews every report. You can also write to [email protected].
- Take a break. Your story will wait for you.
- Delete a chat or your account at any time: old chats are in Earlier chats, and your account is in Me.
If you think a user is under 18
Write to [email protected]. We review such reports first and close accounts of minors.
What isn’t allowed
Content involving minors in any sexual way, harassment, encouragement of self-harm, and attempts to get around our safety systems. Read the full rules in our Terms.
